### Sometimes I wonder how it would have been if I lived in a time where we couldn't even imagine things we take for granted now. How people might have laughed at the Wright brothers when their first attempts at human flight failed.<br>

I try to imagine that because I realize how unbelievably fast scientific and technological advancements progress in our time. My son will never have known a time without the internet, binge watching, cellphones or Facebook. Technology is great and can be used to do great things, but I increasingly feel like we're jumping in head first into new conveniences without really considering the possible negative consequences of our new play-things.

Have we, for instance, become impatient? Simple example: my mother used to love those first American soaps like Dallas, Dynasty, Falcon Crest and the likes. My son can't imagine what it's like to have to wait an entire week to see the next installment of a serial. We used to copy records on cassette tapes, TDK or Maxwell preferably because they had great clarity of sound. But to copy a record, you had to listen to the whole thing. There was no copy D:\MP3\ALBUMS\ *.mp3 E:\MP3\TEMP to quickly load some music on a usb stick. We had to wait. Be patient.

When we weren't at home, we were unreachable. We weren't constantly distracted from our immediate surroundings by a beeping and pinging mobile. Nowadays I see droves of people who aren't even aware of their surroundings... But these are small complaints really; human beings are the most flexible creatures on the planet and I hold on to the possibility that we can still adapt in a healthy manner.

But some things *should* worry us...

If you didn't recognize that fragment of text, then shame on you ;-) There's two kinds of people in the world really: those that have read Frank Herbert's "Dune" saga, and those who have yet to do so ;-) The hunter seekers were the killer drones in that story, but unfortunately this is almost not science fiction anymore, but science fact.

We don't have to fear AI becoming smarter than us and dominating humanity just yet; that's still a while away. But assassin-drones don't have to be very smart, they just have to be precise, fast and agile, something we've already mastered. It's but a small step from self driving cars to autonomous flight:<br>

I hope that got you worried. Rest assured: this is not reality *yet*, but as you can see, all the technology needed to realize this nightmare future is already here. In a world as splintered as ours, the powers that be will certainly try to be the first to have this strategical advantage, so this *will* become a reality if we do nothing.

The video with the scaring realistic looking near future with autonomous killing-machines is part of a fake website of a fake company called [StratoEnergetics](https://stratoenergetics.com/). When you click the button to order your own army of killer drones, this text pops up:
