How does hummingbird vision differ from normal birds? it makes quite different movements when comparing to normal birds? To unravel how hummingbird handles visual information in a unique way. Read In the research published in the Current Biology magazine.

Known facts so far, Hummingbird’s region of the brain called Lentiformis Mesencephalic which process/senses dynamic visual information, the part corresponding to the viewing nucleus in the mammal is developed greatly, and hovering/ flying still in the air.

In this study, images of dots moving in different directions. Three kinds of birds, hummingbirds, quince birds and pigeons, and recorded how the brains of each bird responded. Then, while other birds react sensitively to the dynamic information from behind, it turned out that hummingbirds showed almost similar reaction to information from all directions. In animals other than hummingbirds, it is normal to respond to movement from behind to avoid surprise attacks by predators.

Also, since the hummingbird hinge dry is fine-tuning its position, researchers expected that hummingbirds developed visual processing nerves would respond more sensitively to slow motion. However, Hummingbird was more sensitive to high-speed movement than any bird.

Andrea Gaede, who led the research, said she would like to further investigate how the brain process will be further converted to the hummingbird flight in the future. It is expected that such research will also be useful for developing algorithms used for control by visual information, such as drone control.
