The size of Gomorrah's fourth season was perhaps too small compared to the actual impact that the series based on Roberto Saviano's novel would have deserved.
As a careful observer of the serial dynamics I think that the umpteenth excellent work of the Sky team has been overshadowed by the concomitant release of the last season of Game of Thrones, an unparalleled world phenomenon that has attracted the attention of all fans.
The first Friday of May 2019 aired the final couple of episodes of the fourth season of Gomorrah.
Spoiler Alert!
The season was characterized by a series of episodes focused on events and characters that until last year we would have considered marginal and that instead in this fourth year have taken the limelight, one above all the character of Patrizia.
Cristiana Dell'Anna, thanks to her performance, has carved out a prominent place for herself in the Italian acting scene and there is no doubt that in a few years we will hear about her for important awards.
The Neapolitan actress was able to instill in Donna Patrizia the ruthlessness typical of a boss and the insecurity of a woman, wife, sister struggling with something too big but ineluctable.
Her existential quarrel dissolves in these last 2 episodes in a repentance that, as often happens, is seen as betrayal and in Gomorrah you know who betrays pays.
No exception is made for Patrizia who, just when she thought she could put her criminal life behind her and start from scratch with her Michelangelo, will have to deal with Genny's resoluteness and cynicism.
The ending that sees the 2 protagonists is of a frightening power.
The actors are excellent at instilling in the final dialogue that coldness in Genny's eyes and that tender incredulity in Patrizia's eyes that make a scene in itself already memorable even more sensational.
It is one of the most surprising endings in the history of TV and the fact that it is written, directed, produced and acted by local characters makes us even more proud and hopeful for the future of the Italian entertainment industry.
We get to this ending step by step and once again it is Gennaro Savastano who provides the link for all the storylines that had developed in parallel.
He who, with all of himself, had tried to emancipate himself and distance himself from criminal activities for the sake of his son and for a redemption of his figure from that of his father, arrives at the end of the parable with an awareness that that criminal world is his world and no matter how much he may want to distance himself from it there will always be dark forces inside him and outside him that will always draw him into that sick and violent vortex.
In the course of his path of redemption he has tried in every way not to get his hands dirty and do everything according to the rules. That surname, that experience, that cumbersome story he carries with him did not allow him to be accepted by civil society, which sees in him only the son of a boss and not an all-round man in search of redemption and redemption.
The umpteenth upheaval of the criminal balance in Secondigliano will act as a fuse to ignite the violent, calculating and cruel animal that dwells in him. The affront of his uncle and the Levante family, determined to take Patrizia out and take control of the drug empire of the sails, will be the detonator that will detonate the Genny bomb.
Gerlando will die by his hand and his wife and Blue Blood will also be very close to execution.
With the help of the mysterious Mistral Genny will be back in the game.
What we don't know is that to lose her life will also be her friend and protected Patrizia, guilty of not being able to dispel the doubts about an alleged confession to Magistrate Ruggeri during her few days of collaboration with justice.
The scene of the murder of Mickey first and Patrizia then hits hard to the stomach like a punch given to the center of the belly that blocks the breath and circulation for a few seconds leaving us in panic and amazement.
In Gomorrah nobody is safe, not even the king, not even the winner.
And here is the final scene of a triumphant Genny who will take refuge in a bunker away from his son and wife, giving us the figure of what Gomorrah is not and never was a celebration of criminal power, as some sectarian newspapers or observers would have us believe, but the exact opposite.
Gomorrah is and always has been a prisoner-free series.
Only death, smallness, loneliness and danger.
No one is safe.
No one is safe.
No one can ever be saved from that life.
> This is it.

Solo morte, pochezza, solitudine e pericolo.
