Bitcoin the original blockchain was designed with this very property in mind; By spreading out the attack vector so thin that there is no such thing as a "single point of failure". We applaud Steemit.com for getting the site back up as quick as they did and hopefully they are willing to publicize a post-mortem of the whole thing. We'd love to study them.
