SO, I'm a pretty unusual guy, I like unusual topics so I will most often be found looking at unusual posts. That's me, I want to hear about people's lives mostly, I like seeing how people view and do things differently. So that means that that's where I'll be found, on those pages, tossing my votes around because I dig that shit.

Hint, it also means I don't want crypto advice from anyone ;), which seems to be a topic that everyone is an expert on, though,  if that were true, they would have been on steemit before steem went over a dollar, but hey, not my bizz..

New users have been joining Steemit constantly since I joined three months ago and that's a good thing, new people mean fresh ideas, content etc. Sadly, this isn't entirely how it goes. What I have seen is a lot of new users running around asking for "Follow X Follow" and this is a HUGE waste of time.

Why is that? Well, it's simple, if I follow you simply because you asked or followed me, that doesn't mean I like your stuff. So it doesn't mean I'll read your stuff and it definitely means I won't be upvoting your stuff. So, like Linkin Park has said, quite eloquently, "IN THE END, IT DOESN'T EVEN MATTER!!"

So, what does this tell you? It tells you that being on Steemit is not about follows, it's not about upvotes, it's not about demanding results. It's about forming connections, building a community, growth, and development, personal and across the board. It's about contributing, it's about participating, it's about leaving with more than you came with and taking less than you gave. 

So yeh, wondering why you have so many followers and no votes? How many people are you following? Do you upvote every single post they make? No? Why not? You can't, or just simply not that interested? Well, both reasons matter, so if you can't figure out what makes you upvote a post and what makes your post worth upvoting, you're in for a pretty shitty ride here on steemit.

When you acquire followers through "Follow X Follow", quite likely you don't care an ass what that person writes or blogs about, and they probably feel just as much love for your shit. So neither of you is going to help the other out farther than clicking the "follow" button. Eventually, you and others like you will have a following in the hundreds, but it won't matter because none of you create any real content anyways and neither is any of you really interested in what your followings have to say.

So basically, it's LOSE X LOSE  when your following is just a collection of names you gathered so your numbers can be nice and round. Aside from giving you the chance to make a milestone post celebrating your HUGE following, you gain nothing, not even votes on THAT post. Do you want to have milestones and celebrate them? That's fine, it's encouraged, but look for real ones. Followings aren't really milestones, not the way new users are going about it.

 ALL you are doing, at best, is making your feed as crowded as the new page, which defeats the purpose of having a feed in the first place. This is a large part of the reason why most experienced users, WILL NOT FOLLOW YOU, aside from your annoying approach...

A real following is made up of people who felt driven to follow you because they want more of whatever it is you do, not someone who follows you so you can shut up and stop trolling the comment sections of their posts. This is annoying, it's low, it's stupid, it's downright disrespectful and most importantly, it will do nothing for you. A following is grown, not collected like chips. I hope you have learned something :) Steem on!!!
