Interesting thought @toofasteddie. 

I think BEER is a really cool and fun thing on steem. I bought enough yesterday to stake from spare change I had by selling other tokens on steem-engine. 

This seems like a good example of how a community and a free market can solve a problem (monetisation of comments). If people are buying, it has value. If it has value, people will be happy to receive it. If you can give BEER without losing any yourself (by staking), people are happy to give some away. If newbies see BEER flowing all over the place, there might be a buying spree for it as they also want to get involved.

Reddit has something similar with DONUTS in the r/ethtrader subreddit but that was a fad that people lost interest in very quickly. It was just for fun but BEER could actually solve a problem even if it wasn’t originally designed to solve a problem.
