I got my first computer when I was 11 years old...the year was 1998 and even though Microsoft windows 95, as well as 98, had already been developed, the first computer I had did not run on those platforms but rather on DOS. It won't be until much later that I would be able to get windows. That didn't stop me from using the computer though because it was something new to me and I wanted to experience it. I would spend at least an hour or two on the computer every day playing games and eventually get more interested in it.

If it wasn't for that computer that I had received as a gift (It wasn't just for me to use alone sadly...I had to share it with my siblings), I would never have been interested in computers. The games that I played on it...made me start thinking of other things that I could do with a computer. I never chose computers as my major in college because what I truly wanted lay somewhere else. I didn't get to complete that course due to family problems but that has never stopped me from learning other things.

I learned to format the computer and replace parts of it on my own whenever it broke down. I also started to learn to code on my own but due to a lot of others thing going on for me at that time and not having enough time. Over time I have picked up coding books many times to try and get back into, I even visited tutorial sites but eventually, I would give up. For a long time, I have been thinking about trying to learn to code again and I think its about time I started. But if I am going to start learning to code once more...I might as well do it with a language that is widely used.

I have limited knowledge of coding from taking it up many times but I think that background would hopefully help me to start any language that would be beneficial for me. What do you guys suggest I should pick up and what do you think would be the best way to go about without giving up on my quest for more knowledge. Any advice would be highly appreciated. Thank you :)

Nice thanks @aggroed, I will look into it and keep checking back and forth to see if I can teach others something while learning to code myself. Right now I am learning some web programming on codecademy. Though slow I hope I will be able to retain it over time if I keep practicing.

Hey mate!! Fantastic. I remember  using my grandpas puter when I was just a boy and it was running DOS and I have my first introduction into computer tech!
I have a **very** similar story to you as I had the rest of my past fall into place and leave my love for computers falling to the wayside... Had we only known now what we had got ourselves into as kids eh... 
I am very willing to try and learn to code. I tried hard 3 years ago using youtube vids and found it very interesting... but again life got in the way...
maybe its time to stop letting life get in the way, and make life all about learning how to code eh :D

i have felt the same way, should learned when i had the chance at younger age when i got my first desktop with windows 3.1 on it, i have thought lots times i wanna learn to code even basic and have spent a few hours hear and their but never learned nothing to major but from time to time i really wanna learn and get my kids learning how to code as well

@eastmael, that is a very good question and I do have an idea of what I want to be capable of doing but one of those things will take a lot of time. Another thing I think that I want to work on now is probably build an exchange which superior from the rest. Low fees, better support and a security system that would make hackers cry :P (Damn my dreams are so messed up)
