The escrow account seems cool, still trying to figure out how it works. The protocol of it would need some sort of voting of accounts that could be trusted to be the middle man?

Yeah some kind of reputation system wouldn't hurt, but all that's really needed is that both parties trust the escrow to do their job correctly, if it comes down to that. The vast majority of transactions would not have disputes.
