Who didn't love Fringe!!

Actually lets not get started on that as it will only bring up painful memories of that terrible last season. Anyway, one of the things I loved about that show was the use of 3d text, especially the composited scenes (mostly used for location names when setting up the scene.

Another great example of it is the intro credits for Panic Room.

It can be subtle enough when composited well but just looks really slick. Well, I think so anyway.

SO over the past few months I've been trying to get to grips with a few different 3D rendering programs. I've gotten to a reasonable level with a few of them years ago but through lack of practice and being distracted with other creative outlets I keep on letting my skill with this 3d stuff slide back to zero, well almost.

Heres a recent attempt at some 3d text placement and compositing. Its just a very simple shot I took a few years ago of Rue Lepic in Paris (beside the Moulin Rouge).

There were lots of subtle details I had to try to bring in such as matching colour tones, matching shadows, matching lightings, reflections from the environment, camera perspective etc. Its far from perfect but was fun trying it.
