you can always get some JavaScript blocker, that's basically adblocking the page back to html and css only, basically you choose what sites run on the site, since most sites nowadays are plagued by google everything and social service scripts, not to mention ad tracking and cookie crumbles and whatnots. 

In short JavaScripts are sunning rampant everywhere just like ads were before, I'm happy to stay in the 1995 era of the internet, where you didn't need a 4core & 8gb RAM just to browse the internet. Text and images are good enough for me, preferably ones I don't mind, actually preferably text and images I have selected myself :D not some algorithm basing it's "profile" around me, steem and steemit were a blessing for me, hopefully it stays that way :) 

Oh another note, just mind your cycles, keep your computer in check :)
