yeah it is in a sense the lowest denominator that binds us all in this ecosystem. The difference is design of the incentives and the goal of the design. For Bitcoin, it is maximum security in the form of hashing power. It is not clear what it is in Ethereum right now. And as for Steem, it seems to be to propagate the Steem message as much as possible.
