I haven't been following development closely for a while, but as far as I know, Steem still lacks a way to indicate the language of the post. In my opinion, that is essential feature and much more important than translating the UI.

Without a clear way of indicating the language of the post, it's really hard to create any non-English communities. Using tags to indicate the language is just a temporary hack and should be discarded as soon as possible.

When the language of the post is recorded in the blockchain, UIs can also hide all posts that are written in a language user doesn't understand. It makes the user experience much better when people don't see posts they don't understand.

Any ideas how we could get the devs implement this? There is [open issue in GitHub](https://github.com/steemit/steemit.com/issues/300) but so far nothing has been happening. Maybe if eSteem implemented this first, that would make Steemit devs to do it too?

Valid point and I think UI language options are start of just that. When more users see UI in their own language and write posts in their native language, more we can extract and show content with optional settings (only show posts that are in their language). And communities will grow around that languages with time.
As for recording language in blockchain, it is already possible, only UIs need to add that in `json_metadata` during submission of new post. I have made note of this and will be adding this feature soon! Thank you!

Great!

I've been waiting for months to somebody implement this. I'd like to promote Steemit to my Finnish friends but before there is a way to post and find other posts in Finnish it will just give them a bad first impression.

BTW, please use [ISO 639-3](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_639-3) for the language codes. It contains all spoken languages so it will be perfect choice to be a standard.
