Whose reality is it that you speak of?   Not my reality.   As for love decaying over time, perhaps it wasn't love in the truest sense of the word.   As I see it, love  evolves over time.   Everyone I ever loved I still love, just not in the same context as I once did.   
Perhaps evil is not so much an absence of love as it is an absence of empathy, but I see empathy as a byproduct of love.    And the love I speak about is of a spiritual nature and is not rooted in hormonal stimulus which is more about the physical attraction required for propagating the species.   Too often this attraction produces an infatuation or a "psychological dependence" which is confused with love but is not love.    Love is not just about how a person makes you feel, it is about how you want to make the one you love feel.   Love is more about what you give than what you can get.
