LinkedIn is a social network designed for job seekers and employers. I have used it to promote my consulting business and got one contract and a valuable recommendation. Even you are happy with your job, you should always have a passive job search. You could lose your job or it can turn bad. Then, a LinkedIn profile along with resumes posted to job boards make it easier to start an active job search. The only exception is people who are lucky enough to have reputations that lead to job offers.
