Certainly one of the hindrances to communication, and even to rational thought, is the paucity of our languages. There is no way to really know if you and I are using a word to convey the same meaning - beyond quite mundane matters and given our ordinary languages. 

I have heard that there are traditions within which much more refined and exact languages have been developed thus making communication (and thinking) more exact undertakings. Probably akin to the symbols used by mathematicians or physicists, there may exist language and symbols for students of consciousness.
