 ----  Hi, what's up geek mates?, I hope you are all doing well. Welcome to my third post about The Hobbit for the great game boy advance. As always, this will be a Retro-gaming blog where I tell you how Bilbo continue exploring with the Dwarves & Gandalf the lone - lands in the Middle-Earth : ) **Tech note:** For this gaming blog I'd been using the emulator **Visual Boy Advance M-64 (64 bits)**.  ## <center> <div class="phishy">**The Hobbit for Game Boy Advance (Synopsis).**</div> </center> On 24 October 2003, developers Saffire brought us The Hobbit for the Game Boy Advance, a videogame based on J.R.R. Tolkien's wonderful literary work of the same name. This videogame was published under the protection of the then very famous company: Sierra Entertainment. The Hobbit is an action-adventure videogame with an isometric view, in which the player controls the main character of Tolkien's literary work, Bilbo Baggins, and in which we will explore the story of The Hobbit with sufficient fidelity to the book, but with some variations in the story, such as the existence of characters that do not exist in the original work from which this videogame is inspired. Combat is hack and slash style, where we can manage our equipment and items through a very well-designed inventory.    Further into the Lone-lands, the group of Dwarves asks us to continue searching the northern ruins for valuables or artefacts that may be of use to us on our journey. So we head first to the first abandoned building we come across, which appears to be some kind of ancient castle. ----  The Middle-earth is definitely no man's land. Traps and precipices are everywhere, for example, in the first ruins we visited we found a trap at the top of the ruins, which made us fall into an abyss that led to the interior of the ancient castle. ----  Once inside the ruins of the old castle, we began to solve a series of puzzles that consisted of pushing some old statues that served to press some activators on the floor of the building, which when activated made some kind of wooden elevators emerge from the floor that took us to other areas of the castle. ---- <div class="pull-right">  </div> <div class="pull-left">  </div> But our journey through the interior of the ruins of the old castle would not be easy, because every time we activated a wooden elevator, immediately appeared a large number of giant bats, which have a very good resistance to the blows of our wooden baton, in addition to an excellent attack, coming to reduce us on several occasions many points of life, as they attack in group these giant bats. ----  Luckily we had enough food in our inventory to recover our health points, especially after facing a barrage of bats, which on average took 8 to 10 health points every time we activated an elevator and had to face a group of them. ----  We have found a new tool, and this is the tinder & flint, and although at first it is not explained in detail exactly what we will use it for, it will be used to light fires and solve different puzzles that we will find throughout the adventure. ----  After getting the tinder & flint we had to walk a long way to the exit of the old castle, where we met strong opposition from those pesky bats. On the other hand, the hack & slash aspect of the game, although repetitive, is really quite addictive : ) ----  Since we still can't get out of this area of the Lone-lands, when we leave the castle, one of the dwarves tells us to keep looking further south, and it is really surprising how big this map is, taking into account the hardware limitations of the GBA, so it is to be applauded the detailed work that the developers of this game did to recreate the majesty of Middle-earth. ---- <div class="pull-right">  </div> <div class="pull-left">  </div> Further south we encountered the annoying giant wasps and other dangerous critters that inhabit Middle-earth, and we could also see how there is a good variety of vegetation and locations on the map. Using the environment to defeat enemies is still an excellent option, especially if you throw rocks at enemies from a distance to avoid melee combat. ----  After prowling around the southern lands, we found another old abandoned castle, which we entered after defeating a large number of enemies defending the surrounding castle ruins. But we still need to get more tokens to be able to exchange them for one more life for Bilbo, as you can see we only have two lives available. ----  We were greeted by a large number of rats and giants and bats that lurked inside the castle, and then we were faced with another puzzle to solve in order to unlock a door that would allow us to go deeper into the dungeons of the castle. ----  And it was at this point that the tinder & stone that we obtained earlier was useful for us to raise two fires in some giant torches in one of the rooms of the castle, this being part of a part of the puzzle to solve in order to unlock the door that was blocked. ----  The use of special attacks becomes essential in these instances, as enemies often outnumber us, and for every encounter with them, they take a lot of health points from us. ----  Arriving in one of the areas adjacent to the main hall of the castle, we encountered many bats and giant rats guarding the activators on the floor of this room. To activate the activators, as in the previous castle, we use the statues scattered around the place. We had to press a total of 3 triggers to open the locked door. ----  We finally managed to unlock the door, but not before we had to face a lot of giant bats again. **Note:** Something I don't like about this game, is the constant regeneration of the enemies every time we change zone within the map, for example, if we go from inside the castle to the outside of it, when we go back inside we will find that all the enemies have regenerated, something that I don't like considering that here we can't farm experience or something like that : / ----  And so it was that we went deeper into the dungeons of the castle, now presented with a new puzzle to solve in order to continue the exploration. But for the moment, we will solve this puzzle on a later occasion, mates : ) Hey, I just wanna say 'thank you very much' for giving me some of your time and read this post to this point.
