Hola amigos,

<b>¿Cuántas veces habéis estado de viaje en un aeropuerto y solo os encontráis hamburguesería, bocadillerías y pizzerías?</b>

Yo no tengo nada contra este tipo de comida, de hecho me encanta comer una buena hamburguesa o pizza. Sin embargo, por mi actividad laboral suelo viajar mucho en avión y muchas veces me coincide estar a la hora del almuerzo o de la cena en el aeropuerto y es frustrante tener que pagar sumas elevadas de dinero por comida muy poco nutritiva que a su vez aportan un extra de colesterol a mi ya alto nivel de colesterol en sangre.

Por todo ello, quería contarles mi grata experiencia en el aeropuerto de Tenerife Norte, en las Islas Canarias, donde me encontré con un restaurante dentro de la terminal, donde pude disfrutar de un plato a base de pescado a la plancha acompañado de patatas arrugas y mojo que son dos productos muy típicos de la gastronomía canaria y que aprovecharé a presentarles.

<b>How many times have you been traveling in an airport and you only find hamburger, sandwich and pizza places?</b>

I have nothing against this type of food, in fact I love to eat a good hamburger or pizza. However, because of my job I often travel a lot by plane and many times I have to be at lunch or dinner time at the airport and it is frustrating to have to pay large sums of money for very little nutritious food that in turn add extra cholesterol to my already high blood cholesterol level.

Therefore, I wanted to tell you about my pleasant experience at the airport of Tenerife North, in the Canary Islands, where I found a restaurant inside the terminal, where I could enjoy a dish based on grilled fish accompanied by wrinkled potatoes and mojo, which are two very typical products of the Canarian gastronomy and that I will take the opportunity to present to you.

El pasado mes de noviembre, me encontraba yo en el aeropuerto de Tenerife Norte esperando mi vuelo a Asturias. La salida del vuelo era a 15:00 h por lo que no tuve más remedio que llegar sobre las 12:30 h al aeropuerto para dejar el coche de alquiler y facturar mi equipaje. Por tanto, sobre las 13:00 h había conseguido pasar el control de pasajeros y alcanzar la zona de embarque con casi dos horas de margen y en consecuencia con tiempo suficiente para comer. En un principio tenía en mente comer algo rápido y leer algunos post de Hive desde la aplicación de #ecency que tengo instalada en mi teléfono, pero de repente llamo mi atención, un restaurante en el que vi en el mostrador pescado fresco. El restaurante tiene como nombre Grill Pejeverde.

Last November, I was at Tenerife North airport waiting for my flight to Asturias. The flight departure was at 15:00 h so I had no choice but to arrive at the airport around 12:30 h to leave the rental car and check in my luggage. Therefore, around 13:00 h I had managed to pass the passenger control and reach the boarding area with almost two hours of margin and consequently with enough time to eat. At first I had in mind to eat something quick and read some Hive posts from the #ecency app that I have installed on my phone, but suddenly my attention was drawn to a restaurant where I saw fresh fish at the counter. The name of the restaurant is Grill Pejeverde.

Una vez atrapada mi atención por esas doradas frescas, me acerqué a una de las camareras del local y solicité una mesa para almorzar y sin tener que esperar tiempo me acomodó en una de las mesas exteriores del local. Tengo que indicaros que, a su vez, el local cuenta con un restaurante interior dentro del aeropuerto, por lo que si un día pasáis y veis llena la parte exterior puede que tengan sitio para acomodaros en el restaurante interior.

Una vez acomodado en mi mesa, me trajeron la carta, la cual era bastante extensa de tapas, carnes, ensaladas y obviamente aparecía en la carta la dorada a la plancha, que fue finalmente mi elección.

A su vez, cortésmente la camarera me indicó que la dorada vendría acompañada de ensalada y de patatas arrugadas y mojos canarios. Esto fue toda una sorpresa para mí, ya que me encantan tanto este tipo de salsas caseras típicas de la gastronomía canaria y como las patatas arrugadas.

Once my attention was caught by those fresh golden fish, I approached one of the waitresses of the restaurant and asked for a table for lunch and without having to wait for a long time she accommodated me at one of the outside tables of the restaurant. I have to tell you that, at the same time, the restaurant has an indoor restaurant inside the airport, so if one day you pass by and see the outside part full, they may have room to accommodate you in the indoor restaurant.

Once I was seated at my table, they brought me the menu, which was quite extensive with tapas, meats, salads and obviously the grilled sea bream appeared on the menu, which was finally my choice.

At the same time, the waitress politely told me that the sea bream would be accompanied by salad, wrinkled potatoes and Canarian mojos. This was quite a surprise for me, as I love this type of homemade sauces typical of Canarian gastronomy as well as the wrinkled potatoes.

<b>¿Qué son las patatas arrugadas?</b>

Las patatas arrugadas son patatas cocidas sin pelar que son cocidas en agua con alta cantidad de sal en escamas. Estas patatas una vez están bien cocidas son escurridas y se dejan atemperar. Una vez atemperadas se sirven de forma que hay personas que las comen con piel, aunque a mí me gusta más pelarlas y mojarlas un uno de los dos mojos canarios, el verde o el rojo.

<b>What are wrinkled potatoes?</b>

Wrinkled potatoes are unpeeled boiled potatoes that are cooked in water with a high amount of salt flakes. Once these potatoes are well cooked, they are drained and left to temper. Once they are cooled, they are served in a way that some people eat them with the skin on, although I prefer to peel them and dip them in one of the two Canarian mojos, green or red.

<b>¿Qué son los mojos canarios?</b>

El mojo es una salsa típica canaria, cuya base es la pimienta (verde o roja), el aceite, el ajo y el vinagre, a esta base se le añade, según el tipo de mojo que se quiera elaborar, perejil, cilantro, azafrán, pimiento, pimientas, comino, pimentón, y un sinfín de hierbas, frutos secos y especias. Mi tía estuvo viviendo en canarias durante muchos años y cuando viene a visitarme suele hacer algunos mojos. Espero que venga próximamente en navidades y me enseñe a elaborar uno de ellos para compartirlo posteriormente con todos vosotros.

<b>What are Canarian mojos?</b>

Mojo is a typical Canarian sauce, whose base is pepper (green or red), oil, garlic and vinegar, to this base is added, depending on the type of mojo you want to make, parsley, coriander, saffron, bell pepper, peppers, cumin, paprika, and a host of herbs, nuts and spices. My aunt was living in the Canary Islands for many years and when she comes to visit me she usually makes some mojos. I hope she will come soon at Christmas and teach me how to make one of them and then share it with all of you.

En cuanto al sabor de todo este plato, indicaros que estaba espectacular tanto el sabor de la dorada salvaje y fresca como de los mojos canarios. Indicaros que el de color rojo estaba un poco picante, pero lo justo para que aquellos que nos gusta el picante tengamos ganas de comer más patatas arrugadas mojadas en esta salsa.

As for the taste of the whole dish, it was spectacular, both the taste of the wild and fresh sea bream and the canarian mojos. The red one was a little spicy, but just enough to make those of us who like spicy food want to eat more wrinkled potatoes dipped in this sauce.
