For me, it is the next step in my career. I graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Insurance two years ago--currently serving my country for a duration of one year, after which I will be in the labour market. The Nigerian labour market is quite tough with a lot more supply of labour than demand for it. The minimum wage is set around 30,000 naira which is around $67. That is barely enough to even keep one afloat. The average graduate with a Bsc earns an average of 50,000 naira ($113) monthly--i earn more than that posting on hive. So secure a better paying job from around $500 to $1000 monthly you need a series of degrees, connections in the right places, etc Just a Bsc won't necessarily cut it. Most of my friends working for insurance companies are earning a subpar salary which actually made me give up hope of working in the corporate world because it seemed like too much work for too little a salary. This is one of the reasons I plan to migrate sometime in the future. But before that can happen I need to make myself more useful and valuable. The tech world fascinates me. I have been in it as a content creator for the past two years. Learnt a handful and there is still a lot to be learnt. Some of the most valuable people in this industry are developers doing backend work or system work or developing apps. I personally want to be more useful here in the future to come. It's quite easy to become obsolete as a content creator but being a developer and solving problems on the blockchain makes you very valuable to the chain. Asides the blockchain world, most IT jobs are well paying and offer the flexibility I love so it's something I want to partake of. I am getting my first low budget PC tomorrow to start my coding journey. Yes I have been wanting to do this but family has taken priority but I think I need to do this for myself. I probably would have to go all out to get a $500 - $1000 laptop but I do have other obligations and projects I need to take care of so my $300 laptop would have to do the trick. Getting a PC is very tricky especially when youre on a low budget. It's not advisable to get a new PC around that price range because most of them are garbage. What's important to me? First of all the chipset. Anything below a core i5 is subpar and given my budget I can only get a 4th-5th generation laptop around that range. These are some of the PC I have seen within this spec and within my budget ![Screenshot_2020052521580861.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/nonsowrites/Chz40ikb-Screenshot_2020-05-25-21-58-08-61.png) ![Screenshot_2020052519081042.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/nonsowrites/pzkzS9cP-Screenshot_2020-05-25-19-08-10-42.png) ![Screenshot_2020052518455701.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/nonsowrites/HRraWwka-Screenshot_2020-05-25-18-45-57-01.png) ![Screenshot_2020052517121495.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/nonsowrites/nHH8QCwb-Screenshot_2020-05-25-17-12-14-95.png) *lol this one is going to leave a hole in my pocket* It's quite ironic because I could afford something twice the value of these PC a couple of months back but I decided to invest it in my property. Anyways, I am getting one if this tomorrow. ![IMG_20200526_075036.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/nonsowrites/U4R9fx27-IMG_20200526_075036.jpg) *HP EliteBook 840 G5 8gb ram 256ssd Core i5 8th gen Fingerprint Keyboard light Super clean* I would have loved to get this but it's $200 above my budget. Anyways, my coding journey starts next month and I would be documenting my progress. Thankfully, there are a lot of techie people here who can help me out. Currently, I am thinking about focusing on android app development. But I am willing to try out a few things. I am open to suggestions by the way. My knowledge is still very very limited.
