That’s a movie I haven’t seen in a long time. It would be a good one to rewatch. I was going to write an introduction for that poem as well, but ended up not doing so. As in many arts, haiku poets have a tradition of calling back to previous poets by reusing their imagery and/or adding a new twist to their theme. Basho wrote a famous poem referencing an older poem about the dreams and hopes of warrior becoming nothing but grass. So playing with that idea, I reworded it as the poem above.
