From the central government of India, there is a slight push on learning 3 languages for survival. There used to be a push on two languages, and it seemed to be the basic requirement, but the world is changing, and the demand is different now. The government feels that it is better if people learn 3 languages instead of two. Somehow I also feel that it is good to learn 3 languages. I would even say learning multiple languages is always good because it gives us different perspectives and thinking abilities. 

## What are those 3 languages?

We have to be very particular about what languages we are learning here. The three languages would be the mother tongue first, then the nationally popular language, and then the third language that is globally popular. If we give weightage like this and learn multiple languages, it is a great thing.

In India, for me, who is staying in Tamil Nadu, Tamil would be my primary language to learn and communicate locally, and next comes Hindi, which is common throughout India. Mostly everyone outside Tamil Nadu speaks Hindi. They say it once used to be Sanskrit that was the common language throughout India. Then later Hindi became very popular. I consider learning Hindi as a good thing because we can easily access it throughout India. 

The third and the most important language is English. This is because English is the most popular language all over the world. Several countries still don't have an English-speaking population. This is hard because we need a common language to communicate with each other, as the regional languages will not help us when there is a need. 

## Multiple languages help globalization

Today we can communicate with people across the world. We don't have to travel and we can communicate with people. This is all possible because of globalization. This creates a necessity/opportunity for us to learn and speak several languages. Today I'm able to communicate every day with someone in the Netherlands and someone in New Zealand which are all located in the other part of the world. This is all possible because we can speak a common language with them.

About a decade back, that was a problem with countries like Germany and China. They don't learn other country languages, but they were still on top. Imagine if they start learning other country' languages and increase their trades, they will become one of the top countries in the world. And for consumers like us, it makes the work a lot easier because with more trading opportunities we can get goods cheaper as well. 

## Languages in India

We have so many languages in India, but to me, learning the mother tongue is the primary thing, and learning the country's language or the governance language is the next important thin,g and learning some foreign language. English is highly preferable because many people across the world are all speaking English today.
