Validator on Ethereum 2.0 – Recommended Hardware
Ethereum 2.0 is a multi-phase network upgrade of Ethereum which translates from Proof of Work (PoW) based on computing power (miners) and electricity (work) to build blocks on the blockchain  to Proof of Stake (PoS) relying on validators (virtual miners) with Ethereum staking. In this new network topology the way you can earn Ethereum is by becoming a Validator and running an ETH 2 client that validates transactions in order to earns rewards.

If you want to become a Validator on Eth2 you will need to make use of a variety of infrastructure prerequisites, either on-premise, in the cloud or something in between. The first thing that you will need to prepare is to get the hardware on which you will run your Ethereum client and node. We will take care of those aspects in a later post and for the moment will prepare the hardware for it.

**The minimum hardware requirements** to be able to run an Eth2 node and its related software is as following:
- Operating System: 64-bit Linux, Mac OS X, Windows
- Processor: Intel Core i5-760 or AMD FX-8110 (or better)
- Memory: 4GB RAM
- Storage: 20GB available space SSD
- Internet: Broadband internet connection (10 Mbps)
- Power: Uninterruptible power supply (UPS)

While this will get you run the Eth2 node considering the future development on the network and other developments, it would be better to go with **the recommended hardware specs** for it.

- Memory: 8GB RAM
- Storage: 100GB available space SSD
- Internet: Broadband internet connection (10 Mbps)
- Power: Uninterruptible power supply (UPS)

I don't know how many will opt'in for cloud based solution, but I think that most of participants will go with the on-premises option. That way you can have full control on your hardware and software and can monitor everything from the comfort of your house. You can put the security measures in place that you usually do or add new layers on top of that.

Now getting back to the hardware that you need to run your Eth2 node, let's see what compact PCs that are on the market that you can use. I would rather use one small piece of hardware with just the specs needed, instead of a tower PC, laptop or others alike. Based on your budget and preference you can with one or the  other or search for some similar systems. Having a dedicated mini PC with an UPS attached should be enough for running your node.

- Lenovo ThinkCentre M720q Tiny
- Lenovo ThinkCentre M90n Nano IoT
- ECS Liva Z3 Plus
- Zotac ZBox Edge CI341 

This is the first prerequisite that you need to take care before moving on with the other steps to setup you Eth2 node. I will continue in a next post the choosing and installing your Eth2 client to run your validator.

Interesting. 

I still have an old MBP 15” i7 with 16GB RAM laying round. The processor seems to be even better than the recommended specs. Old being Late 2013 model.

Will keep an eye on how much validations earn, electricity isn’t cheap here. But given $0 required hardware investment (yes, I have a UPS) Eth2 could be something to consider.

That is some serious hardware that should face current requirements and future ones as the network develops itself. Nice UPS on top of that, it is a must in these conditions and the 4G LTE will surely take over in case the Wifi faces any issues.

That is what I would order for myself, well done, sir! Just would use windows because I'm an old guy and I'm a tool with Linux , haha
All in all, its an equipment capable of running both ETH and BTC node. Pity that LEO/Steem/Hive nodes require a ton of RAM :-( I wonder if we will be able to run a node some day, or to share resources with project like Storj or Blockstack to run one...
