My friend and I were just and still is discussing this. Recently a tax reform bill is being proposed in my country, and the Northern part is vehemently kicking against it because the conditions of which they latch on to oppress, rule and conquer will be challenged and they might lose out. Basically, it's all about personal interest and a majority will maintain the status quo if they get the same opportunity as their oppressors.
