I am not sure I like the outlook that tokens should be deflationary. It makes that token a lot less appealing as a currency as people tend to be more fixated on price. What matters is the use case of the token and the technology that it is developing. Of course having inflation too high isn't a good thing so defining a good in-between is tough.

Ethereum is meant to be more of a commodity than a currency. The deflation comes when the network is under high activity. The block producers are rewarded with inflation.
