Isn't Android already doing this though? A lot of different companies are able to get in easily since the software is open source, and usually works with each other easily. Android is also more Dev friendly since it is easier to tinker with the apps and phone itself. Apple has a very tight grip on everything including repairs. But I do agree that Apple tend to work more seamlessly across their product as a result of this. Governments are slightly stepping in though in providing both convenience and choice. One example is forcing smartphones to use USB-C in EU.
