I am not sure they stand zero chance. The destabilization of the middle east will drive the issues to Europe, not to China, as China are ruthless.

China has a zero chance because China imports most of its energy from the Middle East thousands of kilometers away. Ruthlessness does not do any good if you're impotent.

China is also demographically collapsing. China does low-end chips only. Only the West controls the entire supply chain of high-end chips. Goodbye Chinese AI development.

Nearly everything is made in China, which is why they can get away with so much. US is ruthless too, especially toward its own people's well being, so stuck in the middle is Europe.

No, not nearly everything is made in China. Manufacturers are pulling out of China. Globalization is unwinding. China's demographics are terrible. Also, China has moved from rule by the politbureau to a personality cult of Xi. That is not healthy. No one dares tell him bad news, which allows problems to fester. China's way of handling Covid has been total disaster. 

The US is nowhere near as ruthless toward its own people as a totalitarian regime as China.
