Exactly.

But people are basically irrational it seems. 

The opponents of geothermal think that utilizing the various forms of heat given off by a volcano to heat water and run turbines that produce electricity without fossil fuels might hurt the earth. All attempts to explain that the heat is being released anyway and if we don't use it, it is wasted, seem to fall on death ears. 

Then there are those who believe volcanos are ancient dieties. 
I am at a lost as to where to start a conversation with those folks.
