Solar is going to be a miserable failure in places outside the tropics.  You have to have the right climate, ie the sun shining, for it to be effective.

Plus there is no way battery technology can handle even a minor shift in our total energy needs.  We are going to look at a lot more fossil fuels required.

Just look at how the EU is suffering now that renewables are not providing the energy they promised.  They are having to go back to coal.
