Starting my career in Central Park, I sought the adrenaline that came with the job. Under the guidance of a seasoned officer, I learned the ropes quickly, moved into the plainclothes unit, and began my true dive into urban policing.

In 1988, I moved to the 77th Precinct in Crown Heights, where I faced new challenges that shattered previous norms of violence and crime. The loss of innocent lives began to pile up, often over trivial disputes, further showcasing the depravity among the youth caught in the drug trade.

My first homicide investigation was a stark awakening. The city was rife with violence, and our resources were strained. I learned quickly that in this line of work, you had to be resolute and unyielding in your desire to protect those who were victimized.
