I don't looks so much at the score as I look at what they publish. If I have someone interact with me on a post, sure I see the score, but I also go and look at their profile and what they post. If it's something that I find interesting and want to see in my feed, I follow them regardless of score. Someone new who has written 10-20 posts may have a low score but great material, and they deserve a follow. I was just discussing the nocebo effect with Lisa Gentile in our CTP Telegram about it. You can consider the reputation score as a similar effect: people who don't use a system like you or I and who just look at a score may miss out on following and supporting some of the lower (read this as 'newer') scored folks.

That is true. It is not a metric that one should put complete in exclusively. There needs to be a lot more research. High score does not mean the person is a great content producer nor does a low one reflect upon the person's potential. Time is certainly an element and a low score tends to mean someone is new.
