Shanghai upgrade successful: SEC is pressuring U.S.-based crypto exchanges to exit staking. Will the U.S. loose its crypto edge?
Das Shanghai-Upgrade ist heute nach Mitternacht erfolgreich aktiviert worden und bis jetzt ist der erwartete Kurseinbruch ausgeblieben. Im Gegenteil Ethereum ist sogar wieder auf fast 2000 Dollar gestiegen.

Man muss aber bedenken, dass das Unstaking nicht so schnell funktioniert, sondern sogar "Wochen bis Monate" dauern kann, aber vermutlich werden die Auswirkungen weniger dramatisch sein als gedacht. Vorausgesetzt der Krypto-Markt bleibt bullish.

Mittlerweile zeichnet sich aber eine neue Entwicklung beim Unstaking ab. Große Börsen wie Kraken, die im September noch 8% der gestakten Ether gehalten haben, steigen komplett vom Staking aus und haben ein "Power Down" eingeleitet.

Auch Coinbase könnte Staking-Produkte für US-Bürger komplett vom Markt nehmen.

Grund ist die SEC, die gegen Börsen vorgeht, die Staking-Pools und niederschwellige Staking-Produkte für Anleger anbieten.

Wenn man allerdings selbst etwas on-chain stakt, wäre man meiner Meinung nach nicht von dem Bann der SEC betroffen.

Was sagt ihr dazu? Denkt ihr, dass die USA wegen der Agitationen der Regulierungsbehörden ihre Krypto-Vorreiterrolle verlieren?

Oder geht es hauptsächlich darum, Binance aus dem US-Markt zu verdrängen und Staking zu verbieten, damit die US-Bürger nicht in Kryptowährungen flüchten?

The Shanghai upgrade has been successfully activated yesterday and so far the expected price slump has failed to materialize. On the contrary, Ethereum has even risen again to almost 2,000 dollars.

However, it is important to keep in mind that unstaking does not work that fast, it may even take "weeks to months", but probably the impact will be less dramatic than anticipated. Provided the crypto market remains bullish.

In the meantime, however, a new trend in unstaking is emerging. Big exchanges like Kraken, which still held 8% of staked Ether in September, are exiting staking entirely and have initiated a "power down".

Coinbase could also take staking products off the market completely for U.S. residents.

This is because the SEC is cracking down on exchanges that offer staking pools and low-threshold staking products for investors.

However, if you do some on-chain staking yourself, I don't think you would be affected by the SEC's ban.

Verstehe ehrlich gesagt nicht, warum die USA gerade dermaßen gegen staking vorgeht. Setzt man nur auf Bitcoin? Da gibt es bekanntlich kein staking? Oder geht es um Regulierungslücken die man erst schließen will? Zumal einige Bundesstaaten wie Texas oder Florida ja recht Krypto freundlich sind. De Santis will sogar CBDCs in Florida verbieten lassen…🫣

Kraken hat 60% aller gestakten ETH unstaked. Wie du beschrieben hast hat es noch keine Auswirkungen aber der Zeitraum bis die ETH ausgezahlt werden ist doch recht lange.

Ich persönlich werde im nächsten Jahr wieder etwas ETH kaufen und auf Coinbase defi oder vielleicht der Exodus wallet Staken.

Ich glaube nicht das die USA das staken verbieten wollen, die wollen eben nur das die Anbieter und Investoren steuern zahlen. 

Um ETH zu staken Mac ein Investor ja auch in andere Länder ausweichen.  Bestes Beispiel ist China.

Guter Punkt, letztendlich geht es dem Staat vermutlich um die Steuern, dass US-Bürger Steuern auf Staking zahlen und nicht auf ausländische Börsen ausweichen.

Crypto.com musste in Deutschland auch vorerst seine Dienste einstellen, auf Druck der BaFin.

Aber ich kann dort immer noch meine euros hin überweisen und bitcoin und Co kaufen. 

Die Presse macht mehr aus den Thema, wie es wirklich ist.

Es wird wohl weiter ein Hin und Her zwischen den Regulierungsbehörden und den Nutzern der Kryptos geben. Wenn die Adoption und NUTZUNG allmählich voranschreitet, werden zentrale Entscheider ihre Macht verlieren. Ich hoffe, dass das Experiment in El Salvador weiter erfolgreich verläuft.
Der Prozess des Erwachsenwerdens ist langwierig. Bitcoin ist ja noch nicht einmal volljährig.

I think the US is losing an edge due to its anti-crypto stance but I don't think people will bother too much. They will just do what they can if there is no staking, then people will just move around to where there are those options. If people are truly that worried, they will move but I just don't think many care too much about it.

Normally unstaking is not so difficult but since ETH is new to this mechanism it takes some more time and effort. Coinbase currently has a two weeks timeline to unstable ETH which is ok in my view.

It's really sad for US investors because we lose out of great opportunities to earn. I feel that if someone understands the risks involved let them do it.  Maybe just force them to put up a large disclaimer that you could lose all your money rather than regulate them out of existence.
