You write some very effective descriptions. We see Ronnie chopping wood.  We feel his fear and confusion.  We feel his dread as he realizes that now he must bear the curse inherited from his father and grandfather. As a writer, you have set a challenge for yourself: how to share Ronnie's sense of unreality and confusion without confusing the reader. All in all you do it rather well, though at times it is hard to sort what is happening from what is in Ronnie's mind.  This is easier to  portray in cinema than on the written page. I applaud you for taking on such a difficult task.
