So to be clear, using markdown code works as well as HTML tags? I mostly compose using full markdown with if it helps to switch, I wouldn't mind.

Yes, the markdown is converted to 'proper' html. If you right-click your post on hive.blog and do view source, you'll see the 'hashes' as h1, h2 tags etc. I usually use markdown but though for the template i'd try to be proper.
