It has been a while ago that I have posted an update of the Hive Discovery Tool I've asked @ecoinstant to build. This mainly has to do with people being busy with other important stuff. Building a tool isn't going to make you rich. At least, one for the Hive blockchain won't.

For those who are too lazy to read through all these blogs, here is a short summary of events.

- I had the idea of a curation tool that could filter posts, so I could get a nice clean feed of posts I like (which currently no front-end offers.
- I contacted @ecoinstant about it and he was enthusiastic about the idea.
- I started a fundraiser to collect some funds so the effort could be rewarded somehow
- Eco started building and released a prototype

And then it became a bit quiet for a while. Both Eco as myself were busy with other projects. But things changed last week.

# A brand new tool
Last week I was contacted by @ecoinstant again on Discord with the message that they had completely rebuilt the tool.

This is what he explained about it in [his own announcement post of the new tool](https://peakd.com/@ecoinstant/curation-post-finder-is-this-worth-money-12):

*"But based on his feedback, and the way the back end worked - honestly I didn't like it. It was not scaleable, and it had some front end issues, including load times. I scrapped that tool and started again. Version 0.0 is dead, long live Version 0.1!"*

So, there is a new tool, which is called the Post Curation Tool and runs on the domain of @thecrazygm, where also a lot of other cool tools are hosted.

# Testing the new tool
I've been lucky to be asked to test the tool before it was officially launched and asked to give some feedback.

Although the 'old' tool had a few options that are still missing in the new one, it already looks way better and works a lot faster as well.

The great thing is that you can combine certain search criteria like author, tag, title keywords, community and app.

In the screenshot below I tried to filter my own posts that contain the cycling tag, which is actually one post in the past week. By clicking the post you get redirected to the post in PeakD. This is for now, but there are already ideas to change this.

There are some functionalities in 'the old version' that are not yet present in the new interface. Two of those things that would make the tool really better is the option to add multiple of the same values, like multiple tags. And the ability to exclude posts with certain tags, in certain communities, with certain words in the title or a combination of these.

It is cool to see the entire tool has been rebuilt and I think we need it some more time to add new features. And...

# Funding
Yes, this is a project, that isn't funded by the DHF. There is no money to be gained when people start using this tool. These guys are doing this for the community, so why not give them some support for this.

In my first post mentioned I wanted to collect $100 for this project to be started up. After three posts and some generous donations a total of $57.90 has been collected.

Yo estoy bastante segura de que esa herramienta ya existía antes de que le encargases el proyecto, pero no tengo pruebas, no está mal cambiarle el nombre a algo y agregar algunas cosas nuevas, pero debería haberlo dicho y no venderlo como un nuevo desarrollo.

Así como está, no es de casi ninguna utilidad, ahí donde busca por nombre de usuario, por qué mejor la búsqueda sea por antigüedad de usuario, si lo que proponías era "descubrir" contenido nuevo de nuevos usuarios. Ahora es una herramienta para priorizar a los que ya sabes cómo se llaman en Hive 😆

Creo que debo leer todos los post porque evidentemente cambiaste el espíritu de la idea. O no se puede hacer.

I don't know about that. If there already was a tool, then someone would have known about it, no? I'm not one of the developers, I just asked for a tool, which these guys provided and trying to bring some attention to it.

There have been some developments there are options to exclude tags and users as well now.

In my first blog in the 'Hive needs better feeds' series I've proposed a lot of things I'm missing in the current feeds. One of them is the inability to discover new users and 'underrewarded' content. 
The tool is still in development. It has been rebuilt and new features are developed. The developers are asking for input to improve the tool, so if you have any suggestions yourself to improve the tool, just propose them. 

I have some requests myself; for instance the age/reputation number of the account and the current rewards. But I don't want to be to demanding. These guys do this work for free and sometimes get some tips for it. 

But feel free to propose any features to be implemented. It shouldn't be my tool. I think it should be a tool for the community. 

I'll make a new blog later this week where I will show some use cases for the tool with the current possibilities.

No soy una desarrolladora lamentablemente, pero creo que si hay una base de datos, como sé que hay en Hive, donde figura la feçcha de creación de cuentas, hubiera sido mucho más útil filtrar por ese criterio, en lugar de por "nombre de usuario" porque incluso hay algunos nombres imposibles de recordar correctamente. 

Tampoco ví que se pudiera filtrar por rango de fechas. O son nuevos o son viejos. Pero por qué no filtra por  1, 2, 3 etc días de publicación.

También sería bueno que pudiera filtrar por extensión de carácteres, aunque la calidad no va ligada a la extensión, y otro campo interesante sería por idioma, o país, para empezar a formar comunidades más fácilmente.

Igualmente por mi 1HBD no puedo reclamar nada, pero si se va a desarrollar algo que cumpla con la lógica del "problema" que el usuario quiere resolver.

Por cierto, puedo donar otro dólar si van a hacer algo bueno!

Do be aware that it is a curation tool and only has 7 days of data because of that.

It would be great when they implement filters to exclude variables as well. That way you can exclude your own username 😀

I would like to suggest adding Ecency.

Ecency and PeakD are my favorite Hive blockchain frontends, and probably they are the most popular two too.

By the way, I tried this post curation tool for searching for content like amateur radio, radio amateur, ham radio, shortwave.

Both in "Tag" and in the "Title Keywords" fields too, but there were "No posts found for the given criteria".

A few years ago I saw at least two radio amateurs on the Steem/Hive blockchain, and one of them were either from Latvia or Lithuania.

Currently I do not remember their callsigns, but either way, the amateur radio is a very rarely discussed topic on the Hive blockchain.

After a few tries (both with posts and with videos too), I also stopped posting amateur radio related content on the Hive blockchain, because Hive users do not seems to be interested in this topic.

So I rather keep this (and most other topics too) for other platforms (for example for Facebook, and for YouTube).

And nowadays I write mostly for myself on the Hive blockchain.

Now I remember him.

I saw him a few years ago on the Hive blockchain.

This is why I wrote "Latvia or Lithuania".

I did not remembered his callsign, but now I do (LY1A).

By the way, I have not practiced amateur radio in the previous two years, mostly because currently I have a CEPT Novice license, and it is not valid in Spain.

Only the CEPT (HAREC) license is valid in Spain.

And I would not bring my Yaesu FT-450D transceiver into the cave/tent living community in the rocky semi-desert on Tenerife either way, where most people are either alcoholic or drug addicts, or both, and it would quickly be stolen.

Some people in this place steal as small as a bottle of milk from others, so other than my smartphone, I certainly would not bring highly valuable electronic devices to this place.
