Well, here are the fruits of all the time invested in exercises for dexterity and taking on the chord progression for this solo. If you don't know what I am talking about, you can see said video [here](https://peakd.com/hive-192806/@bertrayo/wflgyiyj). The piece is a famous merengue from Venezuela called El Norte es una Quimera, composed by Luis Fragachán. This solo is by Alís Cruces. This is an interesting song as it talks about the warmth of home and the coldness of foreign land. It takes into consideration how people have gone up to the north and had ended up suffering. However, if we take a closer look to the things said in the song, we can find that his is about the culture shock implicit in any migration. Some of the verses tell about the laid-back nature of latins and how the clockwork-style-of-living in the USA (the north in the song), isn't suited for us. It goes further as to explain a sense of pride hidden among lies. People lie about what their job was if it was something unpleasant. This calls to our present situation. Many of our countrymen have migrated looking for better opportunities and economic stability. They go on taking jobs they would've never done around here. You know those jobs: waiters, cleaning, working the land, construction. However, it just says how people lie. Maybe they washed dishes and they said they work with silver (this is a wordplay in Spanish as working with silver is what we call *platero*, and a dish is *plato*). Regardless of this saying it never goes on saying jobs like these are bad. It's just that some people do not like to admit the things they had to do in order to keep their bellies full. Going back to the playing part, the chord progression moves on the key of D major using inversions that help bring out the melody of the song. The time isn't too fast as merengues like this have lyrics and are made to be sung. However, it is a common thing to find faster versions. I believe there's a value in interpreting things trying to keep you focus on the melody. Bueno, aquí están los frutos del tiempo invertido en ejercicios y repasar las progresiones de acordes de este solo. Este es un merengue venezolano famoso titulado "El Norte es una Quimera" del compositor Luis Fragachán. El solo es de Alís Cruces. Lo interesate de esta canción es que hace una comparación entre la calidez del hogar y la frío de la tierra extranjera. Toma en consideración a aquellos que han emigrado al norte y terminan sufriendo en esas condiciones. Sin embargo, si tomamos un momento para entender la letra, podemos entender que esto hace más que referencia al choque cultural implícito en la migración. Algunos de los versos hacen referencia a ese estilo de vida más relajado de los latinos en oposición a la vida bajo el ritmo de un reloj en los Estados Unidos (el norte del que se hace referencia) y cómo adaptarse a esto no es tan fácil. Va más allá hablando de esa defensa del orgullo propio entre las mentiras. Muchos se sentirían mal al tener que trabajar en cosas que jamás se hubieran imaginado en sus tierras. Esto habla sobre nuestra situación actual. Muchos de nuestros hermanos se encuentran regados por el mundo buscando mejores oportunidades. Se van y toman estos trabajos en donde estén. Todos conocen los trabajos: limpiar, meseros, agricultura, construcción, entre otros. No obstante, en la canción se habla sobre como algunos mienten. Quizá eran lavaplatos en el norte y aquí dicen que eran plateros (un juego de palabras para dar a entender que es más honrado un trabajo sobre otro en especie de chiste). Cabe agregar que la canción no dice nada malo sobre estos trabajos. Es solo que a algunas personas les cuesta poner los pies en la tierra para aceptar su situación y aquellas cosas que los ayudan a poner comida en la mesa. Volviendo a la interpretación, las progresiones armónicas se mueven en el tono de Re mayor utilizando inversiones para resaltar la melodía. El tempo no es muy rápido porque se trata de un merengue cantable. Sin embargo, es común encontrarse con versiones instrumentales hechas para destacar el virtuosismo del ejecutante. En mi caso, prefiero una interpretación más lenta que resalte las notas. ¡Espero que esta interpretación sea de su agrado y la encuentren mejor que el ensayo!
