My Introduction
Hi, my name is Kah Kin (or just KK, I know it's difficult to pronounce), and I'm also known to my friends as JJ. I am an IT professional who enjoys traveling and photography in my spare time, and I also dabble a little in crypto and related games like Splinterlands. I've been playing Splinterlands for about 6 months, but I've only started posting recently on Hive.

I first started my photography journey in 2010, when I bought my first DLSR camera (Canon T2i Rebel). As I got a little more serious about it, I bought a more professional one, which was the Canon 5D MKIII. Then I decided that it was too heavy for traveling and bought the first mirrorless model that Canon sold, which was the Canon EOS M. I still have all the three cameras to date.

I feel that photography is mostly about getting the shot right in terms of the framing, the right focus and having the right amount of light. Anything else can be done post-processing. Some photographers may disagree, but I'll say do whatever works for you.

When I first started out, I really struggled with getting the shot right. I would take hundreds of photos, and as I looked through them, only a small handful really stood out. It was disappointing but I was determined to improve. So, I kept reading up on how to take better photos and kept practicing. Over time, I took less shots each time, but spent a longer time thinking about how I should frame the shot, and I got a little better at it. So, for those that are starting out, don't give up and keep at it.

Here's a few of the better photos that I took when I first started out. Nothing great but I think is passable. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Welcome to Hive Kah Kin.

I started my photography from an Olympus point and shoot camera. I learned about long exposure using that camera and later made a huge jump to sony a7rii. I thought more ISO and megapixel means better low light capabilities but I was wrong. More ISO means more noise in images and more megapixels means pixel binding and for a7r mII it was bad. It was also very hard for me to take with me while I was travelling. As a full-frame camera and lens required more space in my bag and also it was not safe while travelling as the fear of theift. Then I sold that camera and brought a G7X Mark II using the money that I got from Hive.

from my point of view Proffectional camera are only needed if you can make income out of it. Else its better to carry a smaller camera or a mobile phone and improve the composition aspect of photography.

I see you like to maintain anonymity in introduction post also anyways if you have any doubts about markdown or anything in hive feel free to ask.

Thanks for your help. I must say that maintaining anonymity online and not giving out too much information is a professional habit, as an IT (I mean cyber security when I say IT) professional for my day job. I agree theft is very real when traveling. In fact the Canon 5D Mark III I had was my second one. My first one was stolen by snatch thieves when I was in Belgium.

I also agree on your point about not requiring professional gear, but having a DSLR or mirrorless does give more options for creative shots, like attaching ND filters for day time long exposures. But I get around that sometimes using my iPhone for long exposures using the live photos mode too.
