You shouldn't feel bad, we simply cannot give a child everything they ask for, no matter how good they are or how fun it looks. They learn how to be patient and not so expectant that life revolves around them. I never buy things at the checkout line, where they put candy bars and little toys. I have bought things, but, not when they are there and never when they ask for them. Haarsh, right? Not really. It is more of a surprise when I bring something home or buy it in the store unexpectantly. So they never asked for anything. I had three kids and it was my way of crowd control.  :)

I have moved my entire adult life because of work, and I truly understand. While your son will miss his old friends, I found that the kids were more upbeat if I like a place, they seem to work off our feelings. He probably feels a little guilt about his new friends, and leaving the others behind. I used to have the kids send letters every so ofter to keep in touch, even though they all had phones, a litter was kind of cool from your friend. I know, old school, but, I still write letters on occasion. 

I know, unsolicited advice, I apologize!
