I'm all for the community pitching in to get it done, but if we can shell out $60,000 for an image server when we could have bought hosting for likely the next hundred years or so from SIA (a decentralized crypto based storage solution) I'm not sure why we don't have a proposal to just hire the devs and get it done. Maybe the Dans and some other whales could voice some support and put their stake behind decentralizing this thing and potentially even getting Hive-Engine nodes implemented as part of the witness servers. We have a decentralized funding system for development, if people want it decentralized and further developed then the blockchain can pay for it in my opinion, it's already paying for a lot of other stuff that doesn't add anywhere near as much value to the ecosystem.
