Hello SPIers, For some, if you have tried to use the hive-engine or tribaldex frontends over the past 18 hours, you'll notice that they are empty with no tokens being displayed on either the exchange page or in your wallet. Naturally, the first thoughts are, "Crap! It's been either hacked/DDos'd/Rugged, or there's a bug in the code", but after a few minutes of research on Discord, we can see there's been an internal DDos attack where a user called @shaggroed is spamming transactions and blocking up the chain resulting in a lag.

This seems to have only impacted the hive-engine and tribaldex websites as Beeswap and others are still working. Splinterlands is still working and tribe frontends are still up so the disturbance caused by this DDos attack is minimal. Aggy says our funds are safe.

I'll not lie, i thought SAFU meant "Safe As F*ck" but what does the U stand for? After a google search,

Hmmm, I'd guess Aggy meant safe as f*ck. I dont see hive-engine having such a fund when transactions are free. Anyways, you learn something new every day.

#### What happens to SPinvest if hive-engine did go down? 
I dont ever see it happening, but it could happen, so it's worth thinking about. 

Not alot would change, to be honest. Apart from most HE projects instantly dying which would lose us a few thousand dollars, we'd just carry on tokenless until an alternative is created or we move to another chain. Nothing stops SPI or EDS from being a token on BCS or SOL while managing funds on HIVE. They just foogazi tokens. 

By tokenless, I mean we take the last daily SPI balance snapshots from the bot, and that's everyone's SPI balance. Not going into much detail but we'd still be able to trade tokenless SPI, EDSI, DBOND, RUG, etc. Tokens are just tokens, just a claim to ownership like a receipt. We saw this recently with EDS swapping over to EDSI after a minting error. Because all tokens under SPinvest are backed by actual assets, tokens are just tokens.

#### Why still no Native Smart Contract?

Look, hive-engine is cool, and without it, the utility of HIVE and its price would tank because it's a huge part of the ecosystem, but it's pretty obvious that the team is not really interested in expanding its utility as it's pretty much the same as it was when it was launched 6 years ago. From my POV, and I might be wrong, but hive-engine was mainly created for Splinterlands, so there's little incentive for the team to expand its utility when it does what they need it to do already.

I cant remember what year I first heard about HIVE SMTs (smart media contracts), maybe 2018. These were to work like erc-20 tokens for ETH in simple terms. From what I remember, the code was pretty much done when we forked from STEEM to HIVE so what happened? We have a DHF giving away millions of dollars to proposals for ~~creating~~ onboarding new ~~accounts~~ users and promoting HIVE to non-crypto users. Seems like wasted money as HIVE's utility is very limited and user numbers go sideways at best. Surely, we need to build it before they come? 

What would it take to create SMTs for HIVE? I honestly have no idea, but someone should. I mean, would SMTs be worth $1M to HIVE if that is what the cost would be? I cant see it costing $1M, but I'd guess you'd agree having SMTs on HIVE would be worth $1M. After we create SMTs, then it makes sense to onboard because the chain would have about 1000x more utility.

If you think about it, we'd not need to pay to onboard users because user numbers would organically grow. After all, the exposure SMTs would bring to HIVE would be massive, incomparable to everything that ever happened for HIVE before.     


We could create projects and promote them to the world, not just those already on HIVE. Imagine LEO are SPS getting listed on Binance or Coinbase. Being able to trade SPI directly with any crypto you can think of. The sky would be the limit, hell HIVE could even have its own pump.fun for rug pull meme tokens. With free transactions in under 3 seconds, seems like a complete no-brainer. But on the real, HIVE would beable to compete with blockchains like ETH, SOL, BSC, ARB, BASE, etc. 

Anyway, im sure there is some valid reason why SMTs will never be released. Maybe the HIVE elite prefer to keep a grip on power. Better to be a big fish in a small pond and all that.

To round up, hive-engine has been DDos attacked and they are working on fixing the problems. There's nothing to worry about and services will return to normal soon.
