Hi cryptomancer!

Thanks for the response and the thoughtful question.
I think the answer to user friendliness depends a lot on the goals of Steemit. If the goal is to become an accesible and fun platform for everyone, then posting and use in general has to become a lot simpler for non technical people.
One of the reasons behind the monumental success of Facebook is that anyone with zero technical skills can put up pictures of their vacation, birthday party (and sometimes incredibly inane stuff :) )
Facebook does much of the necesary formatting etc.
I know lots of people who are avid facebook users who don't even know what code is and would think markdown was something done prior to a sale at Walmart.
Anyway pardon my rant. I think if we want Steemit to grow, we need to find some easy shortcuts for non technical people to get started and have fun so they don't give up early.
I found a simple work around to posting which I'll share in a tutorial and see if it generates any interest.
Thanks again for your comments
 and question!

Gotcha. I can see how markdown could be very intimidating for non-technical people. And figuring out how to upload pictures is also not a trivial task. It's funny, one of the things I *don't* like about Facebook is that it's too simple and doesn't give me enough control over the formatting.

There have been various attempts to create better editors for Steemit posts. I haven't tried any of them personally as I'm comfortable writing directly in markdown, but this one looks pretty good: https://steemit.com/steemit/@charlieshrem/annoncing-steempower-org-full-function-realtime-wysiwyg-markdown-editor-for-steemit-com

And I use this service to host all the images for my posts (it was created specifically with Steemit in mind): https://www.steemimg.com/
