Well I was learning german in singapore before I moved to Austria a few years ago. Once i landed in Austria, I started to pick up more german (or forced to) since i lived in a city where not many people speak english. Anyway, my experience in learning a new language is to always observe and copy how the natives speak. This will greatly helps.
