I think we always have some sort of master, if you were totally free you are then a slave to your desires be it good or bad defined by morality at the time. I think freedom has to remain a pursuit, something that has a barrier pushing against it or it would have no value. Barriers like social norms, morality, religion, etc, all keep freedom in check
