Have you ever heard the saying "We are a mirror image of the people we hang around?"

There's truth to that statement through the power of association and positivity. You see positivity and negativity are completely two opposites. We conjure thoughts in our head on the basis of these two opposites. If we're negative in our way of thinking we say things with a negative connotation that are received in a negative way as well. Most people don't like being around negative people because of this. We want to produce positive thoughts that lead to positive words and relationships. So how do we change our mindset to think positively?

There are a couple things we can do ourselves to change our mindset that will inevitably lead us to make better actions leading to a better life. So what are these things? 

The first thing that's most important is an association. Who you hang out is who you become whether you choose to see it or not. You should always put relationship requirements on who you want to hang out with. Make sure they're positive thinkers who lift you up when you're around them.

The second thing I recommend doing is to cut out "failure" words from your vocabulary. This takes some time and thinking but essentially words like "impossible" and phrases like "I can't" or "Not today" all set you up a predetermined failure before you can even take action towards whatever it is you're doing. If I were to go into a basketball game with the mindset of "I'm already gonna lose, this team we're playing is undefeated" then I already lost the game before I even started playing. So eliminate failure words and replace them with positive, hopeful terms.

The third and last thing I recommend is to have a dream. Picture what you want for yourself five to ten years down the road and the bigger you dream the better! Write this dream down with every detail you can think of and read it every day when you wake up and every day when you go to sleep. Eventually, you'll have it ingrained in yourself and you won't need to read it daily but it'll constantly be on your mind producing happy positive thinking. 

A little side note is that if you share your dream with people, you can easily tell who the negative people are if they all shoot your dream down or don't encourage you to pursue it. Positive people support you and your dream and negative ones will try to prevent you from achieving it. So if you don't know who is positive or negative share your dream and they will answer that question for you.

This is only one step to changing your mindset but a very crucial one. Take my advice. I've been on both sides of the spectrum and a positive mind is a thousand times better than a negative one.
