@lymepoet, I've always believed that foreign travel is worth a PhD in Life. It is amazing how many routines, and norms of expectation, we unconsciously inherit from our surroundings. Traveling to foreign locales breaks them all and forces you to adapt, to consider different perspectives and ways of doing things. Many of the things we consider inviolable truths are ... not. People do things many different ways and some of their ways are better than our own. Strangely, I often find the return to my own culture, following extended foreign travel, to be more of a shock that traveling to other countries. Upon my return, I start asking myself, *"Why do we do it this way instead of that?"* Culture binds ... and blinds. *Quill*

@lymepoet, I can't take credit for that one. I was paraphrasing Jonathon Haidt, inarguably the most interesting social psychologist/professor alive. He's written a couple of excellent books and there's lots of videos of his presentations on YouTube. They're fascinating. I HIGHLY recommend them to anyone.
