json_metadata"{"app":"Musing","appTags":["Life","People","Society"],"appCategory":"Life","appTitle":"When you see a person with visible tattoos show up to a business meeting, what's the first thought that runs through your head?","appBody":"<p>You see I have a different thought to @aussieninja, in this day of age that many people now have tattoos that it can't be discriminated against.</p>\n<p>I have tattoos and I show then as a way to express myself in a way that I feel comfortable, to me wearing them is like changing the colour of your hair or getting your ears pierced.</p>\n<p>I have been a manager for a big pub chain and as long as the tattoos were not on their face or neck we were aloud to hire them.</p>\n<p>We used to hire on the ability to do the job and not by the face that someone has tattoos or not.</p>\n<p>I tattooed myself back in 2015, I bought a tattoo machine of eBay and practiced on pig skin first, once I knew how it felt in my hand and I knew what I could do with it I went and tattooed 15 stars on my left arm, each one for every time I had tried to commit suicide.</p>\n<p>It wasn't the fact that I was trying to self harm but my way of saying this is how many times to date I have tried to do it, and everytime I hit rock bottom and feel like I want to end things I look at them and have a change of mind.</p>\n<p>If you feel like this business meeting is important and want to go in showing your tattoos then go a head, it wouldn't bother me, if you don't want to show them then where something like a suit to cover them over.</p>\n<p>I think it is down to confidence more that if it is write or wrong and I wouldn't worry too much about it. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>","appDepth":2,"appParentPermlink":"fkhny9ll5","appParentAuthor":"abhaya504","musingAppId":"aU2p3C3a8N","musingAppVersion":"1.1","musingPostType":"answer"}"

First off, I am so happy that you are are here with us. In a world that doesn't value caring for others as much as it should, you need to know that you are valued, and there are people who don't even know you that sincerely care for you let alone those who do know you. 

I sincerely hope that you never return to the dark place that left you feeling that taking your own life was the only option left. If you ever do, please feel free to contact me and I will listen. Anytime, any day. 

That said, it sounds like you have developed a wonderful strategy for reminding yourself that the the darkness always comes to an end, and tattoos can be a wonderful and permanent reminder of this fact.

This is so nice of you @abhaya504, I have visited that dark place many times, I am doing well at the minute but life has it's ups and downs. I have always tried to do the best I can but sometimes it doesn't seem like it is good enough.
I don't plan on getting any more star tattoos, the ones I have are enough, I have a great doctor now that watches over me on a regular basis and has said that in the last year and a half I have come on leaps and bounds.

Thank you for the offer to chat with you when I feel like this, it is so nice of you to offer, I may take you up on it at some point because who knows what the future holds.

I was surprised for a second, but really I shouldn't have been, he's a young dude and it's obviously no indication whatsoever of his job performance.... if anything we should be more impressed because it shows he has the tenacity and determination to grit through a lot of pain (which is what these meetings are sometimes).</p>\n<p>Basically, the world is changing and it's becoming far more widely accepted, but I'm still probably a little bit away from not thinking about it at all.</p>","appDepth":2,"appParentPermlink":"fkhny9ll5","appParentAuthor":"abhaya504","musingAppId":"aU2p3C3a8N","musingAppVersion":"1.1","musingPostType":"answer"}"

While you're correct, tattoos are becoming commonplace, it's only become a normality in the past 15 years or so. </p><p>I have two full sleeves and can feel some people cringe inside when I'm interacting with them. I'm actually happy to be on the front lines of this cultural revolution, and do all that I can to show others that a tattoed person can be a bright, articulate, and valuable resource. </p><p>Thanks for sharing your honest opinion!</p>

The weird thing is... in literally any other scenario I wouldn't give it a second thought... it's just in the office and meeting rooms.  I think it's because our office is still styled from the 70s and everyone is super old and uncool... if I was in like a graphic design place or anywhere with some young blood I'd be freaked if there were no full sleevers.

People might cringe inside, but they'll forget the second that they realise you're actually awesome.
