As far as I'm concerned, homosexuals can marry if they wish. But rather than simply label the opponents of same sex marriage troglodytes and their opinions nonsense, I think it pays to see where they're coming from.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>Conservative opposition to same sex marriage seems to be based on their concept of marriage. Conservatives seem to think that marriage is a union between man and woman (as ordained by God) the purpose of which is to form a family in the natural way to form a healthy building block of society. In same sex marriage, the goal is often to form a family, too. This is where we are getting close to the reason why conservatives are against same sex marriage. It is biologically impossible for a same sex couple to have a child together. This means that if they are to have a child, some man needs to get some woman pregnant and that woman needs to carry the baby to term, that is, that couple needs to become the natural parents of the baby. In other words, there has to be an unholy union, if you will, between a man and a woman for the same sex couple to get their child.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>Now, I'm also of the opinion that one's origin of birth is an important part of one's identity. When a gamete is donated, not only is a cell donated that makes it possible for a life to begin. The DNA inside our cells is an very important part of who we are and where we came from. This is the main problem with closed adoptions as well. I understand that in some rare cases adoptions may be needed, and these days, adoptions are more often than not open adoptions, which is not totally unproblematic, either. But purposefully creating a messy situation like is in a grey area, to say the least, IMO.</p>","appDepth":2,"appParentPermlink":"fkcavz7d5","appParentAuthor":"walecooker","musingAppId":"aU2p3C3a8N","musingAppVersion":"1.1","musingPostType":"answer"}"

What makes same sex marriage immoral?
<p>If the purpose of same sex marriage is to have no children, do you think a man and a woman cannot decide whether or not to have children? There is no reasonable motive behind that bull shit. Its just a develish practice. </p>

What exactly is bullshit? Same sex marriage or opposition to same sex marriage?

I agree with conservatives that the purpose of marriage as an institution is to provide a socially sanctioned and legally binding framework for family formation. It doesn't make any difference whether or not some individual married couple, same sex or not, decides against having children. I'm talking about why the institution exists in the first place. It is a fact that a lot of same sex couples marry in order to form a family unit complete with children. It probably is the typical reason. The problem is that a same sex couple cannot have a child without a family being already broken. These days, there are not enough orphans to go around for every gay couple who wants a child, which means that children for same sex couples have to be purposefully created and that is not possible without breaking bonds between that child and one or both of its biological parents.
