Shyness has to do with fear. The extroversion/introversion scale is about something else altogether.
\n
Extroversion one of the Big Five personality clusters. According to Hans Eysenck's theory, it's a measure of how much external stimulation a person is most comfortable with. Too much wears us out and too little leads to boredom. The other four clusters are Neuroticism (negative emotionality, fear, worry etc), Agreeableness (need for social harmony, dislike of conflict), Consciensciousness, Openness (to new experiences or ideas). It is entirely possible to score high both in Extroversion and Neuroticism. Shyness is one way in which neuroticism can manifest itself.
