They're learning so much all the time, so they just take it on as an unquestioning fact of life.... it's only once we're adults that we struggle to accept the finality of death and imagine ways to get around it.</p>\n<p>My half-brother and sister lost their mother at very young ages; they were 6 and 8 years old... I think the concept of their mum looking down on them from the clouds was pretty helpful... I know the youngest one, my little sister would blow bubbles (with soap) to her mum. Both the kids were able to accept it really quickly. Obviously they were super upset and devastated by it all, but they understood it all and were able to talk way more openly about it, much more so than anyone else.</p>\n<p>I think basically explain that everyone dies eventually and that it's upsetting but the person who died will always live on with them in their memories. It's a tough conversation but I think you'll be surprised with how matter-of-fact kids are about it all.</p>\n<p><br></p>","appDepth":2,"appParentPermlink":"pkbja99l5","appParentAuthor":"nancybriti","musingAppId":"aU2p3C3a8N","musingAppVersion":"1.1","musingPostType":"answer"}" |
