In September of 2017, a team from MIT and Boston University investigated the hash function, Curl, written by the IOTA team. They found that the hash produced collisions. The team was able to forge signatures on the Tangle, this meant that they could create fake transactions.
\n
IOTA's hash function was also made by their teams, unlike other cryptocurrencies using hash function like SHA etc. So we can conclude that Blockchain is still better than Tangle.
","appDepth":2,"appParentPermlink":"fkmsapzyq","appParentAuthor":"baccamhung","musingAppId":"aU2p3C3a8N","musingAppVersion":"1.1","musingPostType":"answer"}" |

But the report stops there, because while the Blockchain is (for simplicity) a huge file containing encrypted sections that specific servers (the miners) authenticate, the Tangle work on the concept of an acyclic-oriented graph, which means that each node that receives a token must randomly authenticate transactions that preceded its own. It is therefore a system that does not require mining, and therefore does not ask to reward minors, so no transaction costs.
\n
The scalability of the Blockchain is currently an important problem that several groups of developers are trying to solve via overlays (eg Lightning for Bitcoin).
\n
The upcoming arrival of the first quantum computers also raises the problem of the robustness of the encryption algorithms on which the Quantum proof blockchain is based.
\n
In the margins of post-quantum cryptography, some researchers have decided to rethink the Blockchain architecture itself, to make decentralized networks applicable to low power devices such as sensors, web cameras, smart bulbs, etc. which is usually called Internet Of Things (IoT).
\n
That's why the first cryptocurrency based on Tangle is IOTA. Like the Blockchain, Tangle is Open Source, however its designers, who are also IOTA's, strongly insist that Tangle's implementations use IOTA as much as possible.
","appDepth":2,"appParentPermlink":"fkmsapzyq","appParentAuthor":"baccamhung","musingAppId":"aU2p3C3a8N","musingAppVersion":"1.1","musingPostType":"answer"}" |
