Let's say that I am at work and I hurt my back. This happens to a lot of people and back pain is some of the worst stuff you can experience. I go to the doctor and the doctor prescribes me some high strength opiate for my back pain. Say oxycodone or something like that.
\n
Not only are these drugs effective at hiding the pain, but they are also very addictive. So while I am waiting for my back to get better I soon become addicted to the pills. Instead of just taking the one a day I am supposed to, I am now taking two to three a day. A prescription that was supposed to last me 90 days, has now only lasted me 30 days. I can't go back to the doctor and ask for more, because they will know I am abusing them.
\n
I try to buy some off of someone that I know has a prescription, but the high quality of something like oxycodone makes the price much more than I can afford. Or I can afford it, but after several months of buying from this person, I am quickly out of money.
\n
This is where it gets even worse... Unable to find or afford the prescription meds anymore, I quickly realize that heroin is also an opiate, but much lower quality. It is more readily available though and I can get it for a much cheaper cost because it is such lower quality.
\n
As I take more and more heroin, my tolerance for it gets higher and higher so soon I am using two to three times as much as I was before. Next thing you know I am out of money again, I was off work anyway because of the back injury and now I am turning tricks on the street just to get a small amount of heroin to keep me going.
\n
People would say, why don't you just quit then, but the withdrawal of trying to quit is even worse than the back pain I originally had. It is a vicious cycle that doesn't end until I am able to successfully rehab or I over dose.
","appDepth":2,"appParentPermlink":"f3vymgdhx","appParentAuthor":"musiwapasiwa","musingAppId":"aU2p3C3a8N","musingAppVersion":"1.1","musingPostType":"answer"}" |
