I work in a public school district and I just fail to see how this seemingly expensive deployment is any more helpful than what most schools are already doing. Don't get me wrong, as a public school employee, student safety is my number one concern. In addition to my own safety of course. Most schools keep their perimeter on lockdown these days with a single point of entry. All traffic is required to pass through the main office before they can even enter the building. I think you would be hard pressed to find a school building these days that doesn't have a buzzer entry system since the events of recent history. Again, I would probably have to read the whole article to know what their end goal is for using the facial recognition. For a smaller district like ours though, I don't see the point. I think it would be a severe waste of the tax payers money.
","appDepth":2,"appParentPermlink":"fkavg6znw","appParentAuthor":"erikah","musingAppId":"aU2p3C3a8N","musingAppVersion":"1.1","musingPostType":"answer"}" |

This is what the article says:

"The software is designed to scan faces, check them against a database, and alert school officials if it detects a “flagged person” — which, according to the newspaper, could be anything from a suspended student to a known sex offender.

In addition to scanning faces, the software is also designed to detect 10 types of guns."
